My jewellery practice began using polymer clay to make tiny sculptures and wearable art. This foundation greatly informs my work as a metalsmith, particularly in my pieces that focus on intricate, small-scale detail. l value the way these details connect the maker and wearer; they reveal the care, process and intricacies behind the piece.
Playfulness and curiosity sit at the core of my practice.
I treasure learning new techniques and exploring how they can be integrated into my evolving body of work.
This star pendant was created using cuttlebone casting - an ancient technique in which hand-carved cuttlebone forms a mould for molten metal. The ripple-like texture on the piece is from the natural grain or 'growth rings' of the cuttlebone. Much like human fingerprints, this pattern is unique to every cuttlebone, making this piece truly one of a kind. The cuttlebone used for this piece was found at the beach in Ventnor, Phillip Island.
